This is a NOS Certina DS2  from the early 1970’s. This piece features a brown-grey dial with orange sweep second. It has never been worn and comes with it’s original strap, buckle, hangtag and sticker still on the back. Inside ticks the in-house (manufacture) handwind Certina 25-661, movement with date. The large case on this Certina DS2 measures 38mm in diameter without the original signed crown. Everything is in near mint condition. It even comes in a period correct Certina box. No paperwork. Greatets source on the web for information on vintage Certinas is of course www.vintagecertinas.ch.

Lots of variations

This sturdy DS2 watch comes in various designs but always with the same case. The DS stands for Double Security, pointing towards the thick rubber that holds the movement in the case, giving it a bit more dampening of outside shocks. The other features of the Double Security are the large waterproof crown, thick plastic crystal and screw down back, with the turtle logo.

For reference you can check out this hand wind black dial DS2.

The cases are made in steel or in gold filled, the movements are handwind, automatic, without or with date and also day/date display. De DS2 was also available as chronometer! And the range even featured a chronograph with 2 or 3 registers and a handwind movement. There were also models featuring a DS or DS2 signed bracelet or strap. The DS2 watches were made between 1968 and 1975.
